In the village ‚Bandipur‘ in Nepal I found a school founded by the sisters of Notre Dame in 1985. Other than I had experienced while working in a public school, it was well organized and the pupils were very willing to learn. It was a place of lived and taught discipline and felt very contrasty to the rest of the country that is rather laid back and functioning in a chaotic but beautiful way. This discipline at Notre Dame came with a loving way of showing how beautiful it is to learn and grow.
School Sisters of Notre Dame is a religious institute of Roman Catholic sisters. However, in the school were only few hints to that. Prayers of love and compassion, open for all religions are held every morning with the teachers and pupils.
This clash of a western idea of school and the nepali culture interested me a lot so I spent some time photographing the school.
